We want your experience to be a relaxing, rejuvenating one, so the following information will hopefully demystify the protocol.
We suggest you wear casual attire-something you can easily slip off and on without fussing. If modesty is an issue please tell us. We have massage clothing you can wear and treatments that can be done while you’re clothed. We provide any necessary towels, robe and slippers for you to wear during your visit.
The best way to receive a massage or other bodywork is to be unclothed, however we never require you to be naked if it makes you uncomfortable. Our therapists are trained in the “art of draping”. They will leave the treatment room while you get under the sheet on the table, keep you covered at all times except for the area of the body they are working on, and will leave the treatment room before you get up from the table.
Our peak hours are evenings and weekends so call in well in advance. If you are flexible and can make a mid-week appointment we are more likely to be able to accommodate you on shorter notice.
We ask for at least 4 hours notice if your plans change and you need to re-schedule. (The industry standard is 24 hrs.) We have voicemail if you need to call after regular hours. Cancellations within 4 hours of the appointment time will be charged 50% of the service fee.
If you fail to show up for your appointment without a prior phone call, you will be charged 100% of the service fee.
No cell phone calls please! Because the day spa environment should be a tranquil and stress-reducing experience, we request that cell phones and pagers are turned off before entering the spa. Remember that the intention of your visit – as well as others – is to relax!
Please arrive early for your appointment so that you get your full time. Each guest completes a health history form, which takes about ten minutes, rest room stops and client/therapist interviews account for a few more minutes. If you arrive too late your session will be shortened to end on time.
When your treatments are completed you will check out at the reception desk. You may pay with credit card personal check, cash or gift card. Gratuities for your therapist may be left in a tip envelope, available at the front desk. We are not able to add gratuities to your credit card.
We love children; we even have some of our own! However, the ambiance within the spa must remain as relaxing as possible for all of our guests (many of whom are actually enjoying a respite from their little people). We request you do not bring children to the spa. Children under 18 must have the written consent from parent or guardian to receive spa treatments.
Please do not bring food or drink to the spa. It’s best not to receive bodywork on a full stomach, so schedule meals or snacks to allow at least an hour before your treatment. Since bodywork introduces clean, oxygenated and nourished fluids into your tissues and stimulates your body to purge toxins, it is important to flush them out by drinking plenty of water. Be aware of what you’re putting into your nice clean body after your treatments, especially refined sugars, high fats, caffeine and most importantly, alcohol – any of these may have a stronger effect on you than normal. Toxins that are not flushed from your body can be reabsorbed and may give you a “toxin hangover”. If this happens, drink more water!
Gratuities are not included in our prices but are gladly accepted. Calculate the amount of your tip as you would in a restaurant – between 15-20%, but you may of course leave more or less, depending on the quality of the service. It’s more convenient to leave a tip in the small envelopes available at the desk when you check out rather than giving it directly to the therapist or leaving it in the treatment room. The Therapist may not return to the same room after your session. We do not process gratuities on a credit card.
For group reservations we require 24 hour notice of any changes to avoid charges for the services. We can process gratuities for groups on a credit card.
We recommend leaving all jewelry at home. Otherwise, remove neck and wrist ornaments; we prefer that you wear your rings. You are responsible for your valuables! Please be mindful of not leaving valuables behind – frantic searches in robe pockets or nooks and crannies in the treatment room are stress producing for all involved – not what you need after a relaxing treatment!
All clients use a personal changing room with shower (except for 30. minute massage sessions). You will choose one when you check-in. However, each shower is used by another client before and after you, soplease be respectful of other clients and observe the 20 min. time limit. Our housekeeping staff needs time to clean and sanitize the shower after each use.
We want you to thoroughly enjoy your experience. Please be sure to communicate your preferences to your therapist – the amount of pressure, room temperature, whether you want conversation or silence. If you don’t tell your therapist, they won’t know if you’re uncomfortable. This is your time! Let us know what you need.
Please let your Therapist or staff member know immediately if you are uncomfortable for any reason. Our goal is for your experience to be positive, and corrections can only be made if we are made aware of a problem at the time of service.
We try to block outside interference with music, fountains and sound-absorbent walls, but loud voices and noises do filter through. We ask that you please be mindful of others enjoying their treatments, who are truly appreciating all the peace and quiet that’s possible, and try to keep conversations at a low volume.
Medical Advisory: Persons who have a medical conditions such as cancer, osteoporosis, rheumatoid arthritis, deep vein thrombosis, recent heart attack or surgery, hematomas, tumors, hernias, recent or unhealed fractures, burns or infections, or who are pregnant should speak to their doctor first and only receive massage by a licensed massage therapist.
Cold & Flu Season Alert: if you are ill, please do not book a massage. It may actually make you feel worse and due to the fact that viruses & bugs are contagious, we don’t want whatever you’ve got!
If you have a preference for a Male or Female Therapist, let us know. Your choice of service may require a particular Therapist, Male or Female. Discuss these details when booking your appointment.
We love to show off our spa! If you would like to take a tour, please be aware that not all rooms will be open to view and some guests may be transitioning from one treatment to the next. Please allow the staff member to determine the best route for your tour.
Imagine gentle woodland fragrances…meditative music… muted colors and textures suggesting a harmony with nature…already you begin to unwind.
Fruit juices and herbal teas are offered; you change into spa sandals and settle into our comfortable space. Soon your Therapist will arrive and escort you to the treatment room. Following your massage you enjoy a choice of two different showers:
- Steam Showers– softens the skin, relaxes muscle tension, eases joint stiffness, and cleans the pores.
- Rain Showers – like a warm, refreshing summer rain, washes away stress and the day’s pressures.
(Please note: we do our best to book your choice of shower the day before, but cannot guarantee availability)
